About the Census of Agriculture

The Census of Agriculture is a comprehensive survey that is envisaged to collect the data on the structure of agricultural holdings on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

The collected data will reflect the status of agriculture and in aggregated form, it will be used for statistical analyses, which are expected to facilitate decision taking needed to support agricultural production and its development, as far as to the level of local communities.

The last comprehensive Agricultural Census on the territory of the Republic of Serbia was conducted in 1960. The Census of Agriculture 2012 will be carried out within the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2010. The Census of Agriculture 2012 will be prepared, organised and conducted by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia.

The Census will cover:

  1. family agricultural holdings with minimum 0.5 hectares of agricultural land where they carry out agricultural production;
  2. family agricultural holdings with less than 0.5 hectares of agricultural land on which they practise crop farming, livestock raising, fruit growing, viticulture, growing of vegetables and flowers (including production under glasshouses and poly-tunnels), i.e. are engaged in other forms of agricultural production intended for the market, as well as fish farming, growing of mushrooms and snails, bee-keeping, etc.;
  3. Enterprises, agricultural cooperatives, unincorporated enterprises and other forms of organisation with legal personality that are registered for agricultural production as their prevailing activity, and
  4. Enterprises, institutions and other legal entities registered for other activity that have organised branches or other organisational units that carry out the activity of agricultural production
